After a year of running, Mike decided to train for his first marathon...that was 16 weeks ago. Last weekend, he did it!!!! He set off at 6:30 in the morning and ran 26.2 miles in the burning Spring sun, we are so proud of him.
And he's off!
He ran around Lake Lowell in Nampa; it was very beautiful.
He met some great people along the way, and even ran into his highschool football coach taking pictures of the racers! It's amazing how quickly he bonded with his fellow-racers...I think of them as war buddies, hee-hee.
At mile 20 and 22, we met him on the shoulder of the road with our signs and our cheers...c'mon, who wouldn't be cheered up by this sight, right?
Then we were there to cheer him on at the finish line with Jason, Kristine, Rowan, Maric, and his parents, where we gave him his 26.2 car sticker and a wall-hanger for his race medals.
After some post-race drinks and snacks, we headed home for recovery.
Because of his example, Elliott and Lucy have both decided they want to run a 5k this summer, and I am back in training for a half marathon this summer (if my body will let me!). We are so AMAZED at what he has accomplished!! He has already registered for 2 more marathons....I told you it was madness :)
