We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams . . .
yet we are the movers and shakers of the world forever, it seems

Day one

Day one of Bonnie being gone, and we tried to keep busy. After Elliott and I saw Lucy off to school, we went to the Y so I could get my workout on. Then we rode our bikes around the neighborhood until the bus dropped Lucy off. We made a quick dash to the "pirate park" where we attempted to do a little geocache run. We didn't find our first one, then had a meltdown and the kids gave up on the second one, and went to go swing. But just after they left I found it and called the kids back, so they got energized to look for another cache. Lucy found the third cache, so 2 for 3 isn't so bad! Then off to the Y for swim lessons and a romp in the great kiddy pool there. We miss mom lots, so we are going to try and stay busy so we don't think about it too much.

Bonnie's bday

Bonnie's birthday today and we celebrated by eating like we won't make it to another b-day. Started by going to Sakana for some sushi and sashimi (and had an amazing squid salad because the chef wanted to say happy birthday!) Then we went to watch "Leap Year", which was pretty decent for a chick flick. Next, we went across town to Powell's Sweet Shoppe, the best candy store in the world! Finally, we ended up by getting cheesecakes to go from the Cheesecake Factory. It's a good thing calories don't count on your birthday, but what about my calories?!?!

Wall Climbing

I took the kids to the YMCA for free climbing, and it was a lot of fun. I was not expecting Elliott to even put the harness on, and I thought Lucy would climb a bit. I should know better than to underestimate my kids! Elliott tried the free-standing ladder, but quickly thought it too wiggly, and then he tried the wall. He wouldn't climb without me, so there aren't many pictures of him...sorry. He only got as high as my head the first 3 times, but by then end he climbed out of my reach. He is amazing. He doesn't like to be scared, so this was an accomplishment. Lucy, on the other hand, loves to be scared; she is out little thrill-seeker! She climbed the ladder, even though she was very nervous once she got half way up. Then, she climbed the wall on 3 different paths and rang the bell at the top each time!! I have pictures of what I think was the most difficult climb; there is a ledge and everything! She is like a little spider up there. I think I will have to make this wall-climbing thing a regular activity because she seems like a natural. Here are some pictures...enjoy!

A day in the life

ok Christa, this one's for you! She wanted to know how things flow at the Hynes house, so here is the lowdown! Mikey is off to the Y at about 5, Elliott wakes up sometime between then and when he gets home around 6:30 (I know, he's CRAZY!!) We get Lucy up at 7:15 to get ready for school and I make them breakfast. Some days, Mikey is off to work by 7:30, and sometimes, not until 10:30. We take Lucy to the bus at 8:27 (yes, I am that much of a spaz), and Elliott and I head to the Y when she is picked up.

Elliott loves the Y because it is kinda like his preschool. Monday he gets to play on the jump house, and friday is scooter day; those are his favorites. Then, at 10:00, it is home for a snack and shower while Elliott plays Mario Bros or watches Diego (his favorite part of the day). Errand time!! I like to sneak to the grocery store while Lucy is gone because errands are NOT her favorite things.

Home for lunch and Lucy off the bus at 12:20. Quiet time ( a fancy name for a little tv time) while I either read or nap or clean. If it is nice, we will ride bikes or play at a park. Lucy is loving play dates lately, so we may throw one of those in too! If mikey is working late, we may head over to the Wilson's for some adult conversation!! (my favorite part of the day).

I get to cook dinner now!!!! I love cooking dinner, except when I don't, you know how it goes! Dinner around 6:00, goodnight show around 7, and the kids in bed by 7:30!!! Mommy time now! Tivo'd shows to watch, books to read, laundry to fold, and sleep to be had! Fun times, no? The kids probably watch too much tv, and I don't clean enough, but we enjoy each other. The rare days when we get to break this routine and have some real fun are the best days. Mikey's days off are great too. That is my story!

Here are some pics of Elliott trying to be like daddy, Lucy's missing tooth, and Lucy and Alayna's makeup fun. Enjoy.

Wii time

For Christmas, Bonnie received a Wii game, Super Mario. The kids love it, and it's fun to see the three of them playing together. Elliott has gotten pretty good at it.

Show day

Today was show day at the Little Gym. Elliott has been doing a sports class there, where he gets to learn the basics of several different sports. He loves the teachers there, and he gets to do some basic gymnastics/tumbling, but he REALLY loves his sports. His favorite was basketball, but he also really liked football. This semester they also did some bowling and some soccer. This picture is the medal he received for completing the semester.

Rafiki fun

Rafiki is this great place Kristine took us to on Boise. Kids went bonkers in there. They have a giant indoor jungle gym, ping pong, air hockey, dress up clothes, a Wii, craft area, tons of toys....in short, everything a little one could want. They also have couches, magazines, free wi-fi, and boArd games for grown ups. Oh, and their snack bar has kid-friendly foods. This is a pic of Lucy reading to Maric next to the climbing wall.

Tooth Fairy Reports

Lucy has been bugging us about something she heard Uncle Kimo and Joy, Lucy's cousin, did a while back. Joy was having trouble getting a tooth out and Kimo decided to take it out by tying a string to it, then to a door and slamming the door. Well....she came downstairs last night and guess what? She convinced Elliott to do the door, and she tied the string to her own tooth. Picture a string like a foot long, and Elliott slowly pushing the door shut! My fault sort of, she came down earlier and asked me to look at her tooth and how much it was wiggling, and I said i wasn't going to look at it until it was out. Some people's kids!
